Olympus 35 RC

Olympus 35RC-003

The Olympus 35 RC was produced in the 1970s and had the accolade of been one of the smallest yet most advanced compact range finders ever produced.

The 35 RC is often hailed as a "photographers wish list" containing a wide array of features, some of which are not even found on cameras costing 10 times a much.

The features include:-

Manual control for aperture and shutter speeds.

Shutter speeds and f stops both visible in the finder.

Auto exposure.

Auto exposure lock.

Automatic flash exposure.

CDS metering within the filter ring allowing the camera to automatically meter for filters.

And of course this is all matched to the exquisite 42mm f2.8 Zuiko Lens.

The camera came with a limited range of accessories including a matched lens hood, and both electronic and bulb flash options.

Despite its diminutive size ( only 4 1/2" long) the camera was an instant hit due to its ability to exceed features found on almost any other camera, and its superb image quality.

It immediately found favour on the street scene as it was small enough to take anywhere, relatively un obtrusive, whilst been quick and simple to handle with no loss of control.

Even today there are few cameras that can offer the range of features found in the RC and despite stiff competition from Ricoh and Konica in this field, it is fair to say it is probably one of the best compact rangefinders ever constructed.
