Koni Rapid Omega 200

Rapid Omega 200-003

The Koni rapid Omega 200 is a truly unique 6x7 format medium format rangefinder camera.

Derived originally from the Simmons Bros Omega series of press cameras from the mid 50's the line soon developed and eventually ended it's life being built by the  Mamiya camera group.

In total the range ran from 1954 to 1981 with the 200 series been one of the last. The Rapid Omega was one of the last of the true press cameras used in the late 70's as 35mm and 120 SLR's where starting to take hold.

One of the most unique features is the winding mechanism that gives the cameras their "Rapid" name. The backs hold a sliding lever that sits below the focus knob and after each exposure is simply slid out and returned with a "pump action". Doing so advances the film and cocks the shutter.

But the innovation doesn't end their, the pressure plate of the camera floats free of the film to reduce any risk of damage, and due to an ingenious array of links and levers, as the shutter is pressed the pressure plate is brought into position and then immediately released after exposure to allow for a smooth film transport.

The camera runs both 120 and 220 film in different interchangeable backs, has a fully interlocked darkslide system to prevent accidental exposure and runs a range of interchangeable lenses including:-

Rapid Omega 200-002

58mm f5.6 (Eight elements / four groups)

60mm f5.6 (Six elements / four groups)

90mm f3.5

135mm f3.5

180mm f4.5

The system also sported various external viewfinders, close up lenses and flash mounts.

We run a full system of equipment and this camera is great for any 70's themed events.

If you want to add a touch of glamour by having a professional / press photographer doing the photos, then this is the perfect camera for you.
